FEATURED PROJECTS

NYC HHC Bellevue Hospital Combined Heat & Power Project

As the flagship of the NYCHHC system, Bellevue Hospital suffered catastrophic outages which shut down the facility for six months during Hurricane Sandy.  This project was conceived to make sure should there ever be another Hurricane Sandy, Bellevue Hospital will continue in operation to serve the residents of New York.  Guth DeConzo is providing Construction Management services for the installation of a gas fired 4MW reciprocating engine manufactured by Siemens. The state of the art 4 MW Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system is a base load for onsite power generation and thermal energy at Bellevue Hospital. Project will utilize a unique “virtual wire” application which has only been used one other time within the Con Edison network (NYU Langone).  The CHP will supplement Con Edison power and steam delivered to the campus. Furthermore, the CHP will provide resilient backup power in the event of a sustained grid power disruption or disaster. Project required extensive infrastructure piping/systems from the plant location in an adjacent parking area at grade to the 13th mechanical room. System allows for complete islanding of facility from Con Edison system when it operates in parallel with the existing 9MW emergency generator system.  Full automation of ATS’s and Con Edison distribution breaker system allow for remote islanding and synching of CHP system.
