Waldorf Astoria Hotel Combined Heat and Power Project

Waldorf Astoria Hotel Combined Heat and Power Project

Design and installation of a base load 24/7 operating CHP plant consisting of three gas fired 550KW  packaged Tedom Units with hot water thermal waste heat recovery. Each unit is electrically interconnected to a Con Edison main service switch located on the Cellar Level and will operate in parallel with the Con Ed Service. The plant acts also as a standby power system in case of utility power loss. The plant is located on the 6th floor adjacent to the Waldorf’s Grand Ball Room, posing very challenging noise criteria of 65DB and NC- 30 levels in adjacent guest rooms.  Scope also included design and Installation of a 48 Million BTU high efficiency boiler plant for the entire building consisting of eight (8) gas fired hot water boilers as manufactured by Viessmann. The plant is located on the 7th floor and is interconnected to the CHP waste heat thermal piping.

High profile project in a world class Landmark Building with extremely tight space restrictions and noise/vibration criteria. Rigging three 26,000 lbs. CHP containers through the 6th floor landmark limestone façade over NYC MTA subway/rail system requires significant coordination with client and various regulatory agencies for the City of NY.
